Scaling Up Digital Skills for Farmers Across Uganda: An Expanded Initiative for Sustainable Agricultural Development

After the successful completion of a comprehensive digital skills training initiative that empowered 3,000 farmers across Uganda, we’re excited to announce the expansion of this impactful program. Supported by the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) and the Universal Communications Service Access Fund (UCUSAF), we’re now extending this initiative to reach 2,400 more farmers in 24 additional districts. This second phase aims to deepen the digital transformation of Uganda’s agricultural sector, providing even more farmers with the tools they need to thrive in a connected world. Following an extensive needs assessment, we’re preparing to deliver targeted training in the following 24 districts:
Koboko, Maracha, Terego, Madi-Okolo, Moyo, Obongi, Pakwach, Kwania, Kyenjojo, Amolatar, Amuru, Karenga, Nabilatuk, Kaberamaido, Kabelebyong, Katakwi, Serere, Ngora, Isingiro, Buhweju, Ntungamo,
Sheema, Kanungu, and Rukiga.

The needs assessment gathered insights from local leaders, agricultural experts, and community members to shape a tailored curriculum that addresses region-specific needs, including digital applications for crop management, market access, and sustainability. With this expansion, we’re set to achieve the following goals:
Equip an Additional 2,400 Farmers with Digital Skills: By training at least 100 farmers in each district, we aim to empower them to use digital tools that enhance productivity, crop health management, and access to broader markets.
Deliver Region-Specific Solutions: Based on field insights, we’re creating tools for popular crops like tea, coffee, and matooke, which are essential to local economies.
Strengthen Local Collaborations: With support from district IT officers, CAOs, and agricultural experts, our training will incorporate cultural and agricultural nuances unique to each district.

Thanks to the dedicated partnership with UCC and UCUSAF, this phase will further bridge the digital divide in rural areas and foster long-term agricultural sustainability. As we look forward to kicking off this phase in November, we remain committed to enhancing the livelihoods of farmers across Uganda and creating lasting, positive impacts in rural communities.

Stay tuned for more updates as we bring digital transformation to Uganda’s farming communities!
