Re-Design and Development of the OHCHR West Africa Website

Eight Tech Consults Ltd was contracted by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) to redesign and redevelop the West Africa Regional Office website (https://westafrica.ohchr.org/) in line with OHCHR protocols and branding guidelines. The project aimed to deliver a professional, user-friendly, secure, and interactive website to support OHCHR’s mandate in promoting and protecting human rights and fostering stakeholder engagement in West Africa.

General Objective:
Redesign and redevelop the OHCHR West Africa website to enhance its effectiveness, user experience, and alignment with OHCHR’s mandate.

Specific Objectives:

  • Ensure the website contributes to knowledge sharing and stakeholder partnership.
  • Make the website user-friendly, interactive, and equipped with feedback and communication features.

Tasks Completed

  • Conducted inception meeting and requirements gathering.
  • Designed and presented website prototypes and mockups.
  • Developed and implemented a new website using open-source CMS.
  • Incorporated multi-user CMS, search, newsletters, media galleries, webmail, bulk emailing, social media integration, and visitor statistics.
  • Optimized site for low bandwidth and performed SEO and browser compatibility testing.
  • Provided training to OHCHR staff on website management, content updates, and troubleshooting.
  • Developed user guides and training manuals.
  • Held multiple review and feedback sessions with the client.
  • Provided regular follow-up maintenance and updates.
  • Designed and implemented security architecture and intuitive navigation.
  • Transferred 50% of existing content to the new website.
