In a joint effort to strengthen digital competencies among educators, the Uganda Institute of Information and Communications Technology (UICT), in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Sports and Eight Tech Consults Ltd, has concluded a specialized digital skills training program targeting instructors from Uganda National Institute for Teacher Education (UNITE) .
The initiative aimed to equip teachers with practical knowledge and tools in key areas such as digital literacy, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and data analytics.
These trainings were held at the various UNITE campuses in Unyama, Kaliro, Kampala, Muni, Kabale and Mubende as part of a broader mission to prepare educators for the demands of 21st-century teaching.
According to Eight Tech Consults Ltd, trainers had a blended three-day physical training coupled with a 3weeks virtual sessions focused on practical, hands-on learning to ensure educators could immediately begin applying what they learned in their classrooms and institutions.
“This training is timely and transformative. Our goal was not only to introduce technology but to empower teachers to use it meaningfully in education,” said one of the facilitators from Eight Tech Consults Ltd.
The Participants ranged from academic to support staff, including individuals with disabilities, demonstrating the program’s commitment to equitable access.
Participants explored tools like AI-generated content platforms, data visualization software, and cybersecurity simulations. Sessions also focused on institutional digital transformation and the role of technology in academic delivery.
Educators reported increased confidence in using digital tools and expressed interest in further skilling opportunities. Many noted that they were now better equipped to integrate technology into both teaching and institutional operations.
“This training opened our eyes to possibilities we hadn’t considered before. We are ready to move into the future of education,” one participant remarked.
