Context of the Assignment
Software engineering and hardware maintenance are vocations that have not been duly mainstreamed in the TVET structure in Uganda. These programs have for a long time been taught at university level and as such eliminating majority of Ugandans from acquiring in- demand skills through the TVET structure. As a way of increasing the opportunities for Ugandans to access and acquire these skills the 10X Program will support systemic changes in the design, development and delivery of curricula within the TVET sector in Uganda. In particular, 10X will support the development of appropriate curricula (software engineering & hardware maintenance) for the TVET structure in Uganda. The 10X program will also support the development of a trainer’s toolkit and develop qualifications framework the software engineering vocation. The program will provide support to onboard the TVET institutions to fully implement these new programs. Refactory therefore seeks the services of a consultant/consultancy firm to undertake a TVET capacity assessment study. The study will provide insights into the current capacity of the TVETs in Uganda to undertake such programs as software engineering and hardware maintenance. Refactory’s program is focused on supporting young people who are passionate and keen to develop their advanced digital skills in the areas of software engineering, User Interface/User Experience, Data Science, Machine Learning & Artificial Intelligence among others. Refactory uses a hybrid (remote and physical learning model) and as such is not limited by geographical location.
